Absurd Advertisement |
Out of curiosity, I searched the term "Deltopia 2016" on Facebook and came across this advertisement by a hotel that promoted providing a room for out of towners who are planning on renting out a room for Deltopia which is this weekend, April 2nd. I can't describe how upsetting this is to me. Goleta, a supporting community, has become victim to individuals who don't appreciate the beauty of what the heart of Isla Vista actually is. IV is not just a sub-town of Goleta, but it's a home for students of elementary school, junior high school, high school, working mothers and fathers—families. When these ignorant individuals invade our town, we can't just let it happen. Our home's become torn, there's endless littering and not only are the families affected, but officers and UCSB staff are forced to work throughout the intense hours in which Deltopia takes place in thought of students' safety. New regulations and policies are needlessly being enforced as a result of this event.

If you decide on attending this event, I hope it serves as something beneficial and beneficial as in something purposeful and positively influencing your life. If not, what is the purpose of attending then? If your answer is anything along the lines of, "My friends are going, why can't I?" or "I just want to have the experience," Please, please think long and hard about why you're going and don't give yourself a simple, easy answer like the previous ones.

I'm not saying put your glass down and don't ever join your friends in on a party, because everyone deserves a nice get together once in a while, but I'm trying to say that we, as humans, deserve more than what Deltopia has to offer. So this weekend, keep IV safe and keep yourself safe. Do yourself and IV a favor and advertise how much Deltopia hurts our community.
See you next post,
Chey
