Behind the Scenes: Blogging

Farren Rd.
It seems like every time I visit my family members, they are always asking me what I am up to at school and at work. I always seem to mention that I blog for SBCC, because obviously it is something that I enjoy doing and it's sort of become a part of who I am as a student at SBCC. Then, I have to follow through with the whole process of just explaining what blogging is, how I do it, how I got involved, and how I know what I'm doing.

After blogging for the past semester and a half, I'd like to say I have a flawed, but functional, process for blogging.

Here are the steps that I try to follow so it makes it easier for me to blog:

  1. First of all... When blogging, you need something to write about, so make sure that you go out and gather experience. Just like any other job, you need experience to help you through the execution of whatever you'll be taking care of. For me, I like to write about my daily encounters and reflect on how it's affected me as an individual.
  2. Jot down your ideas to avoid forgetting the highlights of what you wanted to blog about. I tend to be a slightly forgetful person, so to help me remember what to blog about, I take pictures or just enter a little blurb in my Notes application on my phone.
  3. Now, gather your thoughts. What is it that you want to write about it and why is it important for you to write about it? Although some of what you write may not apply to the majority of your readers, make sure you publish something that will make you happy and satisfied. This is basically your public memory diary!
  4. After gathering your thoughts, get started on writing and don't forget to add the details! A blog post without crucial details are like a BLT sandwich without the BLT... And with that, be sure to take photos to include a little bit of visual aid for your readers to follow and to keep your post interesting to look at.
  5. Finally, hit that publish or post button and let the world read your work!
Example of me asking for a photo of myself... ;)
There is no real purpose behind blogging. The idea of blogging is so various that it's difficult to pinpoint one meaning to it!

I got started with the student blogging team at SBCC by just passing by a booth during New Student Orientation, filling out an application, getting an e-mail and going through an interview process! It was nerve-wracking, but definitely worth it. This is something that has really glued itself onto my college experience and I enjoy writing so much. Truth is, I don't know what I'm doing when I blog. I just do whatever clicks for me and when I think of something that I want to write about, I scribble it down somewhere and take pictures. Trust me, my family members get so annoyed with me asking to get a picture of me doing something or when I pull out my phone or camera to take pictures of whatever's happening. But in the end, it's worth it and there are more memories to look at!

See you next post,

Chey
