What Do You Love?

I'm really happy!
Lately, I've been thinking... What is love to us and how do we know that we love it? For so many people, love can simply just be maintaining a relationship with a special individual, but what so many of us seem to miss are what love applies to. It can be passion, family, friends, hobbies, and much, much more.

Taking BUS 101 with Professor Bonnie Chavez has already impacted the way that I see myself and has addressed how I feel towards my academic and personal endeavors. During a lecture, the topic of student debt and good schools seemed to come up and for some reason, I was able to really relate towards the discussion. Why DO so many high school graduates immerse themselves into a four-year institute institute right away and end up in an inevitable pool of debt? Why DO they want to subject themselves to professors who just "do their job" by walking into a room of two hundred students and lecture for an hour? Where's the connection or passion in all of this? Professor Chavez opened my eyes about not only the business aspect of attending a community college before transferring, but also the details and challenges in my life that I seemed to overlook.
SBCC View

I was able to completely relate to the first kind of student: a high school graduate looking forward to transferring to a four year institute. However, after just a couple of months of attending SBCC, I realize that I have become a happier and healthier individual because I have been so confident in my decisions. While I have heard of so many financially stressful stories from friends who are away, I was never able to agree with their situation because I was in a really great place in my life.

So... While a ton of people are still attempting to find out what they love, I have discovered that I love me. As conceited and selfish as that may sound, I wouldn't really consider what I had during my senior year of high school anywhere near self-love. Therefore being at this amazing place in my life right now seems to be one of the greatest accomplishments thus far. I have given myself an empowering reason to wake up each day and embrace the day that I would be taking on.

Second Semester Schedule

Coffee & Friday Morning Sunrise
First of all, let's all give ourselves a pat on the back for completing the first week of school! This means surviving all of our morning classes, trying to find a parking spot, and adjusting to the academic life. It's Monday again and let's see where Week 2 will take us now.

The classes I'm taking this year are:
  1. ACCT 110 w/ Andrea Carnaghe
  2. BUS 101 w/ Bonnie Chavez
  3. COMM 121 w/ Maia Mook
  4. FS 101 w/ Nico Maetsu (Online)
The Cause of Cheyanne's Empty Wallet
So with these four classes, there actually isn't too much on my shoulders! So far, it's been a little stressful because the majority of my assignments are online and I'm used to the old school handouts, written homework assignments and etc. I'll definitely get the hang of it with time!

Luckily, I'm working a bit less these days so I have more time to study and get some of my homework done. I don't know how some full time students handle two part time jobs and still remain sane. I honestly do feel like I'm taking a little longer to get into the swing of things and it's kind of annoying. I think it's because I'm learning a whole new concept of things; not like your annual math class, science, etc. It's definitely hard jumping into something I've never actually learned before. Let's cross our fingers for a quick turnaround. :)

I've Missed You!

Christmas Dinner Table in Goleta
Welcome back to reality, my friends! It's been an extra long time since I've updated you all on what I've been involved in these past few weeks. I am extremely excited to be back and get rolling on all of these things that school offers haha. Break was nice, but I actually could not wait until it ended because I wasted A LOT of time... So what have I been up to?

Sunset @ Lizard's Mouth
Well, to start off, tons of my friends came back home for winter break and I got to spend time with all of the people that I wanted to! I really did miss so many of my friends and it was refreshing to see them once again. I hung out with my friends Kristen and Maya and we actually went up to Lizard's Mouth for my first time and it was so fun! I never really thought of myself as an outdoor kind of person, but I realize that being in touch with Mother Nature, especially with people you enjoy being with, is such a wonderful way to experience life and all of its incredibility!

I also had a ukulele jam session at Haskell's Beach with my friend David and that was absolute fun. He introduced me to the Hamilton Musical Cast Soundtrack and I don't think I've heard such ART in my life in such a long time. It's honestly the most beautiful, dramatic, empowering soundtrack that I've heard in a while and I definitely recommend taking a listen if you're into Broadway infused Hip Hop haha. Lin Manuel Miranda, you are a musical genius.

Chey and Cousins -- Family Photoshoot
For the holidays, I visited Fresno once again and just spent time with family! We made dangerously fierce gingerbread houses for a competition, enjoyed some really great eats. I know the Christmas season isn't necessarily about receiving gifts, but this was the first year I was able to provide all of my family members with gifts that they all really like. :)

With the end of 2015 came the beginning of 2016 and I didn't think I would be so sad. 2015 was definitely a memorable and fun-filled year. I graduated, went to Disneyland, published a Yearbook, travelled and so much more. I spent the last day of 2015 with my friends Sam and Brenna and we dressed up, went out to dinner at Pascucci, went back to Brenna's and changed into our pajamas, watched the ball drop, toasted with apple cider, and stargazed at Farren's Road until 2:30 AM.

As the dust began to settle, I was finally home and had a really strong urge to redecorate my room. As you might know from the last post, I'm an official employee and Pier 1 Imports and I was working throughout break! It's been so fun lately and I can't get enough of all of our merchandise. Well... My mom and I made a trip down to Burbank and I got a new desk, dresser and a smaller bed. I was really looking forward to downsizing on the bed because, hey, I could always use the extra floor room!

Anyway, that's basically my entire break! It's been a fun one, but I am wholeheartedly delighted to be back :)
